On this land I have organized some panel related to the procedures taught in real life courses on BLS and BLSD: Basic Life Support and Basic Life Support with Defibrillator Aid.

A mannequin or dummy is placed in the panel gallery to give people the exact rate of compressions (finely tuned with the help of a metronome). Every visitor can try the animation. It is not a full CPR animation because of some new CPR suggestions that allow volunteer trained people not to perform breathing resuscitation (two breathing after 30 compressions at a rate of 100 compressions per minute). So the animation shows only the 30 compressions who are considered, in recent studies, to be enough to mantain circulation until major rescuers come on the scene. It is better train people to get in action, in an emergency situation, instead of a standing crowd, doing nothing, apart from calling 911 (118 in Italy).

The awareness campaign is conjuncted with some other info that can be gathered on site in order to convoy new volunteer to get a RL certificate.

The land is also used by the group IRC who are all associates trained and trainers. Trained volunteers have the opportunity to meet with other trained professionals and volunteers, together with trainers too. There is a huge area for presentations and a bonefire is set as an informal place where newcomers can take a lesson on how SL works too (avatar customization, profile editing, camera movements, building object etc).

We have also used SL as first place presentation (even before RL presentation) on the new flash video utility for cell phones for CPR emergencies. This flash video gives, to already trained people, an emergency tool that is always available to refresh CPR steps with a tutorial mode (slow video with images) and an emergency mode that can be heard throwing cell phone on the ground, while performing CPR (hand free solution).
